If you're going to invest in a boat, invest in your training.
Personal preparation for individuals and couples planning extended cruising and ocean passages.
Extended cruising isn't about completing a list of courses. We start with where you want to sail, who you'll sail with and the experience you already have - then work backwards to the skills, boat and preparation you'll need to get there.
Start with where you want to sail, how you want to live aboard and who you'll be sailing with. From there we can identify the experience and skills you'll need.
If you haven't bought yet, I can help you think through potential yachts in the context of the sailing you actually want to do - before you make a very expensive decision.
Once you have your yacht, training moves aboard. We'll build the sailing, navigation, systems and passage-making skills you need to operate her confidently together.
Prepare for departure, plan the first passages and, where useful, bring experienced support aboard for the early stages while you make the transition to independent cruising.
Over the years, people I've trained have gone on to make substantial voyages of their own.
France to Sydney
South Africa to the Caribbean
Tasmania to Bali
Extended cruising in the Mediterranean
Different boats, different ambitions and different starting points. The common goal was the same: developing the skills and confidence to set off.

The experience behind the training is current.
Jason is sailing his own 42-foot yacht, Adventure, in stages towards the Northwest Passage. The voyage has so far taken her from Malaysia to Japan, with Alaska next and the Northwest Passage beyond.
For couples, the aim isn't to turn one person into the skipper and the other into crew. Training can be built around the way you'll actually sail together - developing the skills, confidence and shared understanding to manage your boat as a team.
If you're thinking seriously about buying a yacht, preparing for extended cruising or setting off on a major voyage, tell me what you're planning.
We can start with a conversation about where you are now and where you want to get to.
